KUNYAQ is a WALINA.

INFO:

Walinas are songs dedicated to the element WATER, sung each October during the 8-day "Champería" festival in San Pedro de Casta, Huarochirí province, Peru, during which all the waterways are cleared out by the community. Together.

They are traditionally written, received and sung without chordal accompaniment.

New walinas are created and sung each year to support the cleaning of said waterways - and it's quite a celebration, as was told to me by my teacher Kike Pinto, honorary member of la Comunidad Campesina de San Pedro de Casta.

Miguel cuenta que: KUNYAQ es el nombre de un manantial sagrado en el territorio de la Comunidad de San Pedro de Casta en las montañas cerca de Marcahuasi en la sierra de Lima.
