Roamin' Around JANDOWAE, Qld - A Little Town With Lots to See

Jandowae, Queensland - so much to do and see in around this beautiful little town.

Jandowae has a population of around 740 and is located in the Western Downs Region, Queensland, Australia. The town of Jandowae is situated on the traditional lands of the Barunggam People. We really enjoyed our few nights at the Jandowae Showground, which we found was a good base for exploring the local area.

The railway came to Jandowae in 1914 – a branch line linking the town to Dalby. Remnants of the rail track can be seen in the video.

Athlone Cottage Heritage Complex is worth a visit, and perhaps check the opening times before you arrive in town. The old school building onsite is actually Jandowae’s second school building.

The Dingo Sculpture can be found on a corner of Jandowae's main street and it sits behind a small sample section of the Dingo Barrier Fence. The start of the Dingo Barrier Fence is located not far out of town.

Follow the Painted Poles from one end of the main street to the other and learn more about the local community – industry, lifestyle and history. The poles were painted by local Dalby artist, Graeme McCullough (GRAZART).

The NAB, or Queensland National Bank Building was built in 1913-14, and can be found on the main street through town.

The Timbertown Tree sculpture celebrates Jandowae’s history and outback culture, which is showcased at the biennial Jandowae Timbertown Festival.
