Marine Science Communication in Europe - A way forward

On 23 June 2022 the European Marine Board Communications Panel (EMBCP) organized a webinar at the occasion of the launch of the European Marine Board Future Science Brief n°8 “Marine Science Communication in Europe: A way forward”.

The Future Science Brief on “Marine Science Communication in Europe: A way forward” has been authored by the EMBCP, which is a pan-European panel of 18 experts on marine science communication, supported by the European Marine Board. The webinar discussed the challenges of communicating two of the main initiatives related to the Ocean: the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (by Vinicius Lindoso, Communications Officer, Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO) and the EU Mission: Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030 (by Aoife Deane, Communications & Public Engagement Manager, MaREI University College Cork & Horizon Europe project PREP4BLUE), and how marine science communication can help these to be overcome. Other points included training and new technologies for communication, connections with other communication fields, and positive messaging of Ocean-related news.

The European Marine Board Future Science Brief n°8 “Marine Science Communication in Europe: A way forward” has been endorsed as a UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (Ocean Decade) activity.
