Moderated by Ruth Okal, Assistant General Manager, ILAM Fahari I-REIT. The session featured experts, Andrew Brooking, Founder & Director of Java Capital and Peter Waiyaki, Partner at Mboya Wangong'u & Waiyaki Advocates.
Mr. Brooking shared from his wide experience in South Africa’s REIT market and gave insights on how upcoming markets can adopt best practices from established markets. His vast experience in advising listed property companies and navigating REIT legislation, added an expert perspective on the evolving REIT environment
Mr. Waiyaki, who has been instrumental in shaping Kenya’s REIT regulatory landscape, brought valuable legal insights, addressing how Kenya’s REIT structure supports investor protection, transparency and compliance. He also discussed on the local challenges and opportunities unique to Kenya’s market.
Together, they addressed the practicalities of launching and managing REITs, from regulatory hurdles to capital-raising strategies. This session provided actionable advice, industry insights and real-time solutions for navigating the complexities of REIT investment in Kenya and across Africa.
