The Philips Dreamstation 2 was released around the same time as Philips issued their warning in early April that there might be health issues with the foam breaking down. At the time i thought it was just a clever way to get people to upgrade their old Philips machines to the new Dreamstation 2. I was wrong....well sort of.

It turns out the problem was actually far worse and much bigger than i originally anticipated! The question is however, when did Philips know about this problem and the health risks associated with it?

Here's some points of interest that lead me to believe that Philips knew about this problems a long time ago. They might not have known the full extent of the health risks but they certainly new about the problems associated with the foam disintegration.

CPAP machines take a long time to develop. Each new model on average takes between 5-7 years to complete. The Dreamstation 2 is the first Philips machine to use this new white style foam since forever and that process of changing the foam is something that would take a very long time.

I think the Philips knew about this problem a long time ago but they waited until they had fully developed and launched the DS2 so they would have a device to offer their customers so they didn't loose to much market share to the likes of ResMed etc.

There's already a large amount of Class Action Lawsuits against Philips and i expect this number to grow exponentially as the recall is rolled out across the globe.
