Thousands of tribal students and youth in Bodoland protested fiercely at the BTC Secretariat in Kokrajhar against Assam’s plan to grant Scheduled Tribe status to six new communities. The demonstrators, mainly from the Bodo tribe, fear this move will dilute their political, educational, and economic rights. The unrest has led to heightened security and political tensions, with major tribal organisations joining the agitation and testing the influence of BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary.
