What's up Jeep fam! Today I talk about a major issue for those of us who love our jeep TJs! This is the issue of the rollover valve aka the fuel tank vent valve. The purpose of this valve is to prevent fuel from spilling when the jeep rolls over. It is also connected to the vehicles emission system through the evap lines. If the system detects a leak in the system, it will throw engine codes such as p0456, p0455, p0454, etc, depending the size of the leak. Now the issue lies right here - that the original rollover valves are now becoming old and brittle on the tjs, and with one wrong bump or sudden jolt, the elbow can break thus leading to an evap leak. This is unfortunate for 2 reasons, 1 because now it will not pass emissions testing, and 2 because these valves are not replaceable, you must replace the entire gas tank, but they don't make replacement gas tanks anymore.

So what must you do? You have to replace your tank with another used tank and hope the rollover valves are intact, and then basically hope they stay strong for a while longer. This is an awful situation and I just wanted to make you all aware of it. In my case, I tried fending off the problem using ball point pen internals, epoxy, jb weld, and while each of them worked for a little while, they all eventually stopped working.
