A hysteroscopy is a surgery that enables a surgeon to see inside your uterus in order to identify and address the reasons for irregular bleeding. With hysteroscopy, your cervix and the insides of your uterus are inspected using a thin, illuminated tube that is introduced into your vagina. Polyps, fibroids, and adhesions can all be removed surgically with a hysteroscopy.
A hysteroscopy can be used to:
1. Symptoms or issues including heavy periods, atypical vaginal bleeding, postmenopausal bleeding, pelvic pain, frequent miscarriages, or trouble becoming pregnant should be looked into.
2. Detect diseases, including polyps and fibroids (non-cancerous growths in the womb).
3. The treatment of ailments and issues, such as the removal of fibroids, polyps, displaced intrauterine devices (IUDs), and intrauterine adhesions (scar tissue that causes absent periods and reduced fertility).
