Use the conservation of mechanical energy to find both the maximum velocity of a block in simple harmonic motion as well as the velocity of the block when it is a particular displacement from equilibrium.
At the blocks maximum amplitude all of the mechanical energy is elastic potential energy, however as the block is pushed forward the energy becomes kinetic energy in the block, thus the block moves.
In this video we first develop an equation to describe the velocity of the block at any point, then we apply that equation to two points in question.
This problem comes up in introductory physics courses such as AP Physics 1, AP Physics C Mechanics as well as the JEE.
