Within Temptation is a Dutch symphonic metal band formed in Wolvega, Netherlands, in 1996 by vocalist Sharon den Adel and guitarist Robert Westerholt. Joined by drummer Jeroen van Veen, bassist Martijn Spierenburg, guitarist Ruud Jolie, and later guitarist Stefan Helleblad, the band has become a cornerstone of the genre, blending gothic, symphonic, and power metal elements. Known for Sharon den Adel’s ethereal yet powerful vocals and cinematic soundscapes, they’ve released eight studio albums, with their 2019 album Resist achieving international chart success. Renowned for their elaborate live performances, including headline slots at festivals like Wacken Open Air, their latest album, Bleed Out (2023), released via Force Music Recordings, tackles socio-political themes while maintaining their signature orchestral intensity.

“Faster” is a dynamic track from Within Temptation’s fifth studio album, The Unforgiving, released on March 25, 2011, via Roadrunner Records. Written by Sharon den Adel, Robert Westerholt, and co-producer Daniel Gibson, with production by Gibson and mixing by Stefan Glaumann, the song fuses driving guitar riffs, lush orchestral arrangements, and den Adel’s commanding vocals. Its lyrics, such as “I can’t live in a fairytale of lies / I can’t hide from the feeling cause it’s right,” explore themes of breaking free from illusions and embracing raw emotion, delivering an empowering message. The track’s anthemic chorus and high-energy tempo make it a standout, blending symphonic grandeur with metal intensity. Accompanied by a 2011 music video featuring dramatic visuals tied to the album’s comic-book-inspired narrative, “Faster” remains a fan favorite for its infectious energy and emotional resonance.
