Yakushima island lies in the ocean 60km south from the southernmost part of Kyushu. In the hillside woods of Yakushima, there are “Yaku-sugi (cedar)” trees that are over one thousand years of age. Clouds rising from the Black Stream strike the mountains almost 2000m high, causing so much rain that it is said to rain "35 days a month in Yakushima".
