【ちょっと変わってる私のイタリア生活】友達がドイツからガス気球に乗ってやってきた。Friends came to visit me from Germany by a Gas Balloon.

今回は、パスクワ（イースター）休暇の頃の出来事です。
私の趣味は熱気球で、最近はあまり飛べていませんが、パイロットでもあります。
その気球つながりの、ドイツに住む友達からイースターの日に連絡がありました。
「明日ガス気球でフライトしようと思ってて、君の住む辺りまで来るから」と。
前にもそんな連絡をもらい、結局来なかったこともあったので、話半分ぐらいに聞いていました。

flightrader24というサイトでは、気球も追跡できるので念のため気球の番号を教えてもらうことに。
予定では夜中の2時過ぎにドイツから離陸し、10時ぐらいにモデナ辺りぐらいで着陸したいとのこと。夜中に何度か目が覚めてチェックすると、予定どおり離陸して順調に進んでいました。

朝起きると、友達からメッセージが届いていて、順調だよと。
マントヴァを過ぎた辺りで降下を始めるとの連絡があり、本当に向かって来そうなのが分かり、迎えに行くことにしました。モデナではありませんが、お隣のレッジョ・エミリア県に着陸し、4年ぶりに再会できました。
最近気球にも触れていなかったのでとてもいい日になりました。
その時の様子が動画でご覧いただいたものです。

彼らが今回使ったのは、熱気球ではなく、ガス気球です。
球皮の中には水素が入っていて、水素が浮力となり、それとバランスを取るためのバラスト（砂袋）を離陸時に今回は約400kg積んでいたそうです。砂を少しずつ落として、高度を調整します。
エンジンなどはないので、進む方向は風次第。
天候、風向等をよく下調べした上でフライトの計画を立てます。

この友達親子は、ドイツで気球体験搭乗を提供する仕事をしています。

This video is about around the time of the Pasqua (Easter) holiday.
My hobby is hot air ballooning and I am also a pilot, although I don't fly much these days.

Ballooning friends who live in Germany contacted me on Easter Day.
He said, "I'm thinking of flying in a gas balloon tomorrow, and I'll come to your area."
He had contacted me before , but he could not reach to my area in the end at that time.

On the website flightrader24 I can also track balloons, so I asked them to give us the registration number of the balloon.
The plan was to take off from Germany after 2am and land around 10am, around Modena.
I woke up a few times during the night to check and found that the balloon had taken off on schedule and was going well.

When I woke up in the morning, I had a message from them saying that everything was going well.
I was informed that the balloon was going to start its descent after Mantua.
I could see that they were really going to come towards me, so I decided to go and pick it up.
They landed not in Modena, but in the neighbouring province, Reggio Emilia. We could meet after four years.
It was a very nice day as I hadn't even touched a balloon recently.

They used a gas balloon this time, not a hot air balloon.
The envelope contains hydrogen, which provides buoyancy, and they were carrying about 400 kg of ballast (sand bags) this time at take-off to balance it. The sand is dropped little by little to adjust the altitude.
As there is no engine, the direction of travel depends on the wind.
The weather and wind direction are carefully studied before the flight is planned.
