Innovating through Data - Hilary Mason, at USI

Hilary Mason is the founder of Fast Forward Labs, a machine intelligence company? She is also the Data Scientist Resident for Accel. In a few word, as it is described in its blog, she make beautiful things with data.
She came to USI to tell us a bit more about how we can innovate through Data.
Imagine you are living in 1950 and you’re sent in the future, let’s say in 2015. What would be the hardest thing to explain to you? The answer would probably be: this small thing able to access to an unlimited number of informations. But we’re still using it to look at pictures of cats, and send basic text messages. For Hilary Mason, that’s a shame. Technology is evolving so fast and we’re still the same users.
Data is a critical ingredient for any successful business strategy. In this talk, Hilary Mason, explores the historical context of this explosion in data and analysis. We can see that data is now very easy to find, it’s growing very fast thanks to powerful machines and strong algorythms.

In this talk, and thanks to Hilary Mason, we will look at the technical and cultural forces shaping the technology, and sees examples of organizations that are able to successfully use data to open up new product and business opportunities.
