Since its debut in 2021, the VB generation WRX has been a subject of controversy, not only because of its polarizing design but also, because Subaru decided not to release the STI variant.

Instead, 2024 brought us the TR model that I reviewed last year, and for 2025, Subaru released the tS, which stands for “tuned by STI” and replaces the TR.

So what is the new tS? The easiest way to explain it, is that it’s a TR with adaptive dampers from the GT. Here, they were tuned by STI and the main goal here was to reduce pitch and roll, and at the same time, improve ride comfort.

We also get a high-performance Brembo braking system with 6-piston front calipers and what many will appreciate, is that the pads are easy to swap on all 4 wheels, so if you wanna track this thing, that’ll be helpful, just like the fact the tS doesn’t get a moonroof, so there’s more headroom and it’s easier to fit inside with the helmet on.

There are also some design touches unique to the tS inside and out, we get special 19-inch rims wrapped in Bridgestone S007 summer tires from the factory, and that’s where all the changes end, as the drivetrain remained the same.

Under the hood still sits a turbocharged 2.4-liter boxer 4-cylinder, delivering 271 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. The power obviously goes to all four wheels via a 6-speed manual, which thankfully, is the only option in the tS.

Pricing starts at almost 46 thousand dollars, so the same as the GT and again, the TR is gone for 2025.
