Christmas Tree Harvest (Cutting, Dragging, Bailing, and how we ship Christmas trees)

Starting at the end of October we begin cutting down Christmas trees so that we can get them to retail lots for the consumer.

We harvest about 23,000 trees per year and have them shipped to retail lots in abut 3 and a half weeks

We start this video off by showing off our very unique way of cutting down Christmas trees. We use a very big brush cutter with a ripper blade and specially designed guard. This is not only faster than a chain saw but eliminates bending over to cut down each tree making it significantly easier to do.

Next, our crew stacks them in piles of three next too our roadways. This is probably the most labor intensive part of the job.

After that, we have a track hoe with a modified set of logger grapples that picks up the trees loose in the field and places them in a 12ft wide dump trailer. They have to be well staked so that we don't break the tops out of the trees when we dump them at our loading yard.

From there, we bale them and then stack them with another track hoe. This part of the operation takes the longest as the baler can only operate so fast. We can usually bale a tree about every 10-12 second. We average about 1500 trees a day but can get up to over 2000 depending on the size of the trees

Lastly, we use these same track hoes to load trucks that haul the trees to retail lots all around our area.
