Both golf courses owned and operated by the City of Arvada, West Woods, and Lake Arbor, are certified members of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf.
The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program (ACSP) for Golf is an environmental education and certification program that helps golf courses protect the environment, preserve the natural heritage of the game of golf, and gain recognition for their efforts. There are approximately 32,000 golf courses worldwide and less than 2% are ACSP courses.
The ACSP, endorsed by the United States Golf Association, provides golf courses the means to preserve and enhance wildlife habitat and protect natural resources. It requires golf courses to go through a rigorous review by an environmental agency to ensure clean water, species diversity, and ecosystems are protected and flourishing.
West Woods Golf Club has retained its ACSP designation since 2007 while Lake Arbor has been an ACSP member since 2014. Both courses have implemented native plant species, Monarch milkweed, birdhouses, and additional best practices with guidance from Majestic View Nature Center and Audubon International.
