Escondido Falls is a great for a short hike. You start off on a dirt path on a snake like road passing large homes and estates. Once you are 3/4 through, you will finally hit the trailhead. The path is well defined an easy to follow. You will have many shady spots to beat the heat.
Unfortunately when we went California was still in a draught. Instead of cooling off we climbed toward the sun and scaled the cliffs to get to the highest points we could. It was a nice afternoon of hiking and we had plenty of time to stop at Malibu to enjoy the beach.
