CAE Nordic-Baltic Hub presents: The School of Advocacy Webinar Series #1
Artistic freedom is often seen as a given in the Nordic region, yet recent years have revealed new pressures that challenge this assumption. From shifting funding models and political tensions to growing concerns about self-censorship, the conditions for artistic expression are changing. This webinar explores Artistic Freedom through the lens of Culture Action Europe’s landmark publication, Towards the Culture Compass: A Sector Blueprint, which maps the cultural ecosystem across Europe and identifies key threats and opportunities facing the sector today. Bringing together policy experts, advocates, and artistic voices, this session creates a shared space to reflect on the current state of artistic freedom in the Nordic–Baltic region and how it connects to wider European developments.
Panellists:
Natalie Giorgadze (General Director, Culture Action Europe)
Rosa Meriläinen (Secretary General, KULTA Ry), co-author of Finland’s recent report on artistic freedom and The Playbook for Freedom of Speech Defenders
Manon Moulin (Editorial Officer, Reset! Network), author of the Artistic Freedom chapter in the Culture Compass
Janne Schäfer and Kristine Agergaard (Artist Duo, J&K), joining as artistic commentators, offering reflections from artistic practice
Moderator: Niels Righolt (Director, CKI)
