One of my favourite compositions. Back in late ’85 I had just quit touring with a top-40 band and moved back home to my parents basement. (I was only 21! Give me a break!) I set up my gear and started writing…a lot. I had a Korg Poly-61, Ensoniq Mirage and the Roland TR-909. The Poly-61 was a pretty cool synth but one of the best things about it was that you could stack the sounds into one monster mono bass sound…one of the best bass synths ever. You can hear it all over the Voice stuff I’ve posted. Anyway…one day playing a low F on the 61, it awakened the Crystal Goblet Choir in my mom’s china cabinet and it blew my mind, lol. So of course I sampled it on my Mirage and did some sequencing on the 909 and came up with this. I had just finished reading Tom Robbins’ Jitterbug Perfume and there was a character in the book named Bingo Pajama who wore a ‘toque of bees’ and it just struck me that this is what it might have sounded like. I hope you’ll take a listen.
