What followed wasn’t a romantic float downstream, but a sustained test of endurance and resolve:

• Leading an expedition day after day for more than four months

Quitting was always an option—but never considered.

This 10-part mini-series follows Brett and his crew as they row the Mississippi River from Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico. This video serves as the intro and trailer for the series. Each week, a new episode chronicles the journey from the river’s headwaters to the Louisiana coastline.

In 2009, the expedition set out with a clear mission: to raise awareness for the Lower Mississippi Riverkeeper in Baton Rouge, Louisiana — part of the Waterkeeper Alliance. For more than a decade, the footage from that journey remained unseen… until now.

Long before social media—
before GoPros and drones made adventure easy to document—
Brett explored some of North America’s great rivers: the Mackenzie, the Yukon, and the Mississippi, along with a 10-day expedition on the Ganges in India.

He has always been drawn to water—and to the quiet lessons rivers teach:
patience, humility, resilience, and self-reliance.

Rivers attract a certain kind of person. Along the way, the crew encountered the characters and communities who live by their rhythms.

This journey happened years before 4 Acres Wild—
Before the hobby farm and before family life.
But the values were already there:
