Chazal teach us that a true chochom, a wise person, is someone who knows there is always something to gain from others—even from one’s own students. Every individual has a unique neshama, a distinct perspective, and something only they can contribute. However, to access this wisdom, we must cultivate openness, humility, and respect.

Rav Berkovits discusses the role of chavrusa learning in refining clarity and middos, the example of Beis Hillel, who always first stated Beis Shammai’s position, and the importance of overcoming our biases that dismiss the value of others. True growth begins when we leave our own “box” and become receptive to the insights of those around us.
