Admire these beautiful and lively silvertip tetra freshwater fish.
Silver tip tetras are native to South America, where they live in clear water streams. They have a silver-gray body with orange-yellow fins and a bright silver shine. They are active swimmers and shoaling fish, so they need to live in groups of at least 6-8.
Silver tip tetras are omnivorous fish that need a varied diet of both plant and animal matter. You can feed them commercial fish flakes, pellets, or freeze-dried foods, and supplement their diet with fresh or frozen brine shrimp, daphnia, or bloodworms .
Silver tip tetras thrive in warm water with temperature between 72-80°F (22-27°C). You'll also need a good filtration system to keep the water clean and maintain the right water parameters. The ideal pH range is 6.0-7.5, the hardness is 5-20 dGH, and the ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels should be as low as possible .
Silver tip tetras are not very picky about the tank decor, but they appreciate some plants, driftwood, and rocks to provide them with some cover and hiding places. They also like some open space to swim around freely. A tank with a minimum capacity of 10-20 gallons is recommended .
Silver tip tetras are peaceful and social fish that can coexist with other similar-sized and non-aggressive species. Some good tank mates are other tetras, rasboras, danios, guppies, mollies, platies, swordtails, corydoras, and small loaches . Avoid large, predatory, or fin-nipping fish.
