The Nice Boat meme was formed around September of 2007 in Japan, where around the time the finale of School Days was about to be aired. A day earlier around the 17th of September 2007 before the School Days finale anime was about to air, an incident happened where a murder occurred, where a 16 year old unalived (I really hate that word) a 45 year old feather in Kyoto with an axe which then lead the Japan TV station, TV Kanagawa cancelled the airing of the anime School Days finale promptly due to the fact that had the similar violent depictions, which decided to replace the School Days finale with 30 minutes scenery of Europe, including Norway with the music of August's Air on the G String. During the 30 minutes of scenery of Europe, which had replaced the anime School Days finale, the boat appears in the middle of the 30 minutes of scenery of Europe which is a Norweigian, Norway ferry boat called the MS Skagastøl which was, at the time belonged to Fjord1 Fylkesbaatane which was founded in Norway. The Norway European boat along with the other 30 minutes of scenery of Europe, was then screen captured and then shared onto an image board website called 4chan which was different back in 2007. The anonymous users in 4chan shared the screen captures with following sarcastic comments including that the Last episode of School Days anime is live action and School Days is just a slideshow of photos. One particular 4chan post in that thread had the caption right beside the same Norway boat in the European scene that said, Nice Boat. Around this time, 4chan posting got locked which at the time froze the moment the Nice Boat post went out. That when the meme, Nice Boat came into fruition. The phrase, Nice Boat, immediately got attention especially in Japan where the Google searches of Nice Boat spikes in the latter part of 2007 and that Nice Boat meme searches was number 10 in the most popular Yahoo Japan searches from around September 17th of 2007 to September 23rd of 2007. Nice Boat meme since then has gotten well known to the point that Nice Boat is referenced in other media beyond School Days, even in Japan. The Nice Boat meme is referenced in easter eggs of other anime and even around 2009 where the Youtube channel of Kadokawa Pictures instead of premiering The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, shows a compilation sail boats, referencing the Nice Boat meme. 0verflow, the developer of the School Days game for Windows PCs, capitalized in the Nice Boat meme where the booth in Comiket 73 is called Nice Boat and also had meme merchandise with the Nice Boat meme in it. I will admit, it is a Nice Boat and I think it is funny how a replacement program in Japan can lead to interesting things like Nice Boat. I've seen references of Nice Boat to stuff on what I've been watching lately like the Anime Adaptation of Bocchi The Rock which even years later is pretty interesting to know that Nice Boat will always live on, even silently.
