Adapted from a story by Leo Tolstoy

Misha - A poor, humble man who is a shoemaker by trade.
Anna - Misha’s kind and loving wife.
Ivan - An old, wise wanderer.
Nina - A sickly girl in need of help.

Scene 1: The Shoemaker’s House
(The stage is set with a simple shoemaker’s workshop on one side and a small, cozy living space on the other. Misha is working on a pair of shoes, and Anna is preparing a simple meal.)
Narrator: (voiceover) In a small village, there lived a kind shoemaker named Misha and his gentle wife, Anna. They had little in the way of riches but were rich in kindness and love.
Anna: (smiling) Misha, I’ve prepared a little something extra for tonight. It’s not much, but we should share it with our neighbor, Ivan. He’s been traveling for days.
Misha: (nodding) Yes, Anna. We’ll invite him to join us. (pauses) I wonder where he might be.
(There’s a knock on the door. Misha opens it to reveal Ivan, a wise old wanderer with a warm smile.)
Ivan: Good evening, Misha! Anna! It’s so good to see you.
Anna: (welcoming) Ivan, come in, come in! We’ve made a little extra for dinner. Please, join us.
Ivan: (gratefully) Thank you, Anna. You’re always so generous.
(They all sit down to eat. As they talk and share stories, there’s a knock on the door.)
Misha: (getting up) Who could it be at this hour?
(Misha opens the door to reveal Nina, a sickly girl with a worried look.)
Nina: (timidly) Please, sir, can you help me? I’m so cold and hungry.
Anna: (concerned) Oh dear, come in, child. You’re shivering. We must get you warm.
Ivan: (gently) You have a kind heart, Anna. Let us all help her.
(They bring Nina inside, wrap her in a warm blanket, and offer her some food. Nina looks very relieved.)

Scene 2: The Village Square
(The stage shows a simple village square with a few homes in the background. Misha, Anna, and Nina are seen talking to other villagers. Some villagers are gossiping.)
Narrator: (voiceover) Word spread quickly through the village about Misha’s and Anna’s kindness. Some villagers were not pleased.
Villager 1: (whispering) Why are they helping that girl? She’s not one of us.
Villager 2: (whispering) They say she’s from the neighboring village. We shouldn’t waste our food and warmth on strangers.
Misha: (overhearing) We are all God’s children. It is our duty to help those in need.
Anna: (firmly) Kindness and love are what make us truly rich, not wealth or status.
Ivan: (approaching) Misha is right. When we help others, we help ourselves grow in love.
(Villagers look thoughtful and start murmuring among themselves. Nina, now feeling better, joins Misha and Anna.)
Nina: (smiling) Thank you for everything. I feel so much better now.
Misha: (gently) We’re glad you do. Remember, love and kindness are always welcome here.
Narrator: (voiceover) And so, Misha and Anna’s kindness not only warmed Nina but also touched the hearts of the villagers. They began to see that where love is, God is, indeed.
(The village square is now filled with happy villagers, and Misha, Anna, and Nina are seen happily talking with them. Ivan smiles and starts to leave.)
Ivan: (to the audience) Remember, wherever you go, let love guide you. For where love is, God is.
(The stage lights dim as the characters join hands and take a bow.)
Narrator: (voiceover) And so ends our tale. May we all carry the spirit of love and kindness wherever we go.
(Curtain falls.)
