Bangladesh's Political Challenges: What's Next

August 13, 2024 — Asia Society Policy Institute (ASPI) and the Asia Society India Center host an expert discussion exploring key questions following the resignation of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after weeks of intense and deadly nationwide protests. Now, with an interim government led by Nobel Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus at the helm, the country faces significant uncertainty and the coming months will be critical. Can the interim government help restore law and order in Bangladesh? What does the future hold for its democracy? And how will these developments impact the region and the broader global community?

Speakers include Sreeradha Dutta, professor of International Affairs at OP Jindal Global University and author of ‘Bangladesh on a New Journey – Moving Beyond Regional Identity’; Michael Kugelman, director of the Wilson Center's South Asia Institute and author of Foreign Policy’s weekly South Asia Brief; Sara Hossain, professor of practice at the School of Law, Gender, and Media at SOAS and partner at the law firm of Dr. Kamal Hossain and Associates; and Shafqat Munir, senior fellow at the Bangladesh Institute of Peace and Security Studies.
