Lepakshi is a village located in the Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh, India. It is renowned for its historical and architectural significance, especially because of the Lepakshi Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Veerabhadra, a form of Lord Shiva. The temple is famous for its exquisite sculptures, murals, and its iconic hanging pillar, which is one of the most remarkable architectural features in the region.

The Lepakshi Temple, built during the Vijayanagara Empire, is an important example of Dravidian architecture. The murals inside the temple are vibrant and depict various mythological stories, including episodes from the Ramayana and Mahabharata.

The village's name, "Lepakshi," is believed to derive from the words "Lepa" (meaning "to apply" or "paste") and "Akshi" (meaning "eye"). According to one legend, the name comes from the story of Lord Rama, where Jatayu, the eagle, was wounded and fell here after attempting to rescue Sita from Ravana.
