A small, peaceful, humanlike being, the Abatwa are part of Zulu folklore.
According to legend, the Abatwa live in anthills or wander in the mountains, sometimes finding shelter in anthills.
According to some accounts, Abatwa lives in dwellings disguised as anthills for their safety.
Wall paintings and mosaics made of coloured seeds decorate the corridors and rooms.
The beings are so small that they can hide under grass blades and ride on ants.
Possibly due to their small size, the Abatwa are shy around humans.
The Abatwa can only be seen by children under the age of four, wizards, and pregnant women.
A pregnant woman who sees a male Abatwa is carrying a boy.
The birth of a girl is predicted by seeing a female Abatwa.
Often, the Abatwa offer aid and good advice to people in need.
When the Abatwa are offended by a foolish human or if someone steps on one of them, they shoot tiny, but extremely poisonous arrows.
