Which is the best Siddu of Himachal Pradesh?
During my 10-day-long Himachal Pradesh trip, I tasted many versions of walnut Siddu, the local delicacy, but the best siddu I had was at Hadimba homestay in Jhanjheli. It wasn’t just food—it was an experience in itself, made by our host, Mrs Tripta.
Do you know why a siddu served at a home is far better than the siddu you get at roadside eateries? I’ve had siddu before, but nothing came close to what I tasted at that humble homestay. Wherever Tripta ji cooked, it turned out to be exceptional. Her siddu was no different—steamed to perfection, stuffed generously, and bursting with warmth.
What made this siddu stand out wasn’t just the ingredients—it was the love and care that went into preparing it. The host's personal touch, use of high-quality local ingredients, and her enthusiasm to share her food heritage made it truly special.
I’ve tried making siddu at home too. But honestly, it’s hard to replicate the magic. When someone pours their heart into a dish, especially with a deep connection to their culture, it transforms the food completely. At that moment, sitting in Jhanjheli, I felt like I was getting a true taste of the region’s soul.
These days, many roadside restaurants compromise by replacing ghee with butter (ugh!) or using fillers like potatoes, peanuts, or even cabbage. That ruins the charm of this traditional Himachali dish.
My experience with siddu at the Jhanjheli homestay is one I’ll always cherish. If you ever get a chance to try siddu at a local’s home, don’t miss it—it might just become your most memorable meal too.
Here is why I loved my stay at the Hadimba Homestay in Janjehli
Tucked away in the serene landscapes of Himachal Pradesh, this charming homestay felt like a home away from home. The warmth and hospitality of the hosts immediately made me feel welcome. They treated me like family, not just a guest. My room was cozy, clean, and offered breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and apple orchards.
What stood out the most was the home-cooked food—simple yet delicious, made with fresh, local ingredients. Sitting by the fireplace and sharing stories with the host family made the experience even more special. It wasn’t just a stay, but a true cultural exchange. Waking up to the sound of birds and breathing in the crisp mountain air each morning was pure bliss. Hadimba Homestay gave me an authentic Himachali experience that I’ll always remember fondly.
