So when you have some sprouted onions in the kitchen or from the store, it indicates the the onions have been there for some time or the environment at the time was ideal for the sprouts to grow.
You can plant these sprouted onions for their onion greens that can be used in cooking especially in Chinese dishes. There are many ways to plant and grow these, some would do so in soil but I do prefer to plant them in water, this way you are able to monitor growth and reduce rot as the bulbs are not in contact with soil and water.
