Jun Nagao (b. 1964)
Born in 1964, Jun Nagao studied composition under Masayuki Nagatomi and Teruyuki Noda at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, graduating with a master’s degree. In 2000 he received the Tōru Takemitsu Composition Award and won second prize in the International Composition Competition ‘Coups de Vents’. His principal works include five symphonies, Litany of the Four Seasons, Konpeki no hatō (Azure Waves), Hisakata no miki (The Everlasting Trunk), Triton, L’Été: l’Oubli Rouge, Kachō fūei, Prime-Climb-Drive, La Luna en Paradis, Lovers on the Celestial Sphere, and Paganini Lost.
Comets, from "The Planets" by Trouvère (2004)
The "COMETS" is a piece from the suite "The Planets by Trouvère" (consisting of 10 pieces) commissioned by the saxophone quartet "Trouvère Quartet"; Nobuya Sugawa (Sop.), Shinichiro Hikosaka (Alt.), Yasushi Arai (Ten.) and Yasuto Tanaka (Bar.). It was first performed by the quartet at Concert Hall Shizuoka on December 12, 2003. The CD Imagine Best Collections / [B4G-3001] Contained the complete suite.
