Nestled in the charming, village-like suburb of Summer Hill, Postino Osteria is the latest brainchild of acclaimed dining power-couple Alessandro and Anna Pavoni, known for their hatted restaurant Ormeggio at The Spit. The conversion of the old Summer Hill post office, the name "Postino" (Italian both for postman, and small, cozy place) not only harks back to the building’s historic roots but also encapsulates the idea of a walk-in space for the local community. The restaurant seamlessly blends this sense of heritage with modern elegance, offering an atmosphere that is warm and sophisticated.
The restaurant is a great excuse to visit the inner west village of Summer Hill. Known for its relaxed, community-focused vibe, the area has become an emerging dining hub, drawing people with its leafy streets and charming period architecture. The transformation of the old post office is nothing short of masterful. Stepping inside, you’re immediately enveloped in a space that balances rustic charm with sleek design. The decor is an elegant mix of raw textures and polished finishes, with timber accents and neutral tones that feel both inviting and stylish.

There are over 5 different types of spaces, including the cozy downstairs and upstairs main areas, street level patio, terrace under a large and lit frangipani tree, private dining room, and the upstairs balcony with a 180 degree view. This mix of casual and more intimate seating, makes it a versatile space for different dining experiences. Highlights are the patio to watch the village street, terrace for the tree, and inside for cozy. Walk-ins are especially welcome, and the bar would be a great spot for 1 or 2.

The wait staff are a large team of super-friendly Italian men, with Anna and others at the front door. The menu is a mix from all over Italy, and there is a dedicated vegan degustation menu. Highlights are the incredible Fave e cicoria (fave bean puree, Pugliase-style chicory ripassata, with Calabrian chilli), eggplant parmigiana, the adult flavoured sorbets, and wines matched by the experienced staff.
