Édouard Commette (1883-1967) performs Choral "Wachet auf ruft uns die Stimme", BWV 645, by J.S. Bach on the organ of Cathédrale Saint-Jean-Baptiste in Lyon (France).
78 rpm Columbia D 11079, matrix LX 1007, recorded in 1928.
The organ was built in 1841 by company Daublaine-Callinet and a enlargement in 1852 by Pierre-Alexandre Ducroquet. In 1875 the instrument was rebuild by Joseph Merklin. Different maintenance and restorations follow trough this company. René Micolle revised it in 1984. After the European heat wave of August 2003, the organ was no longer used because of fire hazards and was unplayable. On 14 October 2022, after a reconstruction by Ateliers (Pascal) Quoirin 2019-2022, the organ was moved within the cathedral and is currently playable as new.
