Paron Lake is considered by some to be the most beautiful of the day trips from Huaraz. It certainly would be a lot more popular if it was closer to Huaraz. It took three and a half hours to get there, the last section on bumpy, single-lane, mountain road through the Rio Llullan valley, in Parque Nacional Huascaran.
The mirador is not a big hike from the car park, involving a 130-metre ascent from the lake's altitude of 4200m. Most would descend to the lakeshore after, either for a walk or kayaking, before the long drive back to town. There is the obligatory stop at a restaurant - Villa Maria seems to be the one - at Caraz on the way up and down. You pre-order your lunch on the way up and I had a great, Cuy.
Laguna Paron was the first of three acclimatization hikes - I would go a higher elevation each day - I was doing in preparation for the Huayhuash Circuit.

05:30 Paron Lakeside
07:13 Caraz
The main purpose of this trip was a 10-day trek of the Huayhuash Cordillera, largely above 4000 metres altitude and over a couple of 5000-metre passes. I would spend 4 nights in Huaraz, going on day trips over 3 days to acclimatize (and take in the views the region - Ancash and Huanuco - has to offer).
