How to replace Hanging parasol cover - DIY exchange IKEA BAGGÖN/HISSÖ/LINDÖJA canopy on a Cantilever

I decided to exchange the fabric canopy on my 8 year old hanging parasol and canopy, which has become quite tattered since I purchased it.

As was the case with the outdoor chair, it deteriorates quickly when exposed to sunlight. It is important to put it away frequently and cover it.

In this case, the deterioration is beyond the level of repair, so we will replace the entire cloth.

So, I bought it from Amazon! They even sell replacement cloth for parasols. Wonderful!
I was able to purchase it for about 2,300 yen. 2.7m and 3m were available, but I chose 3m because the actual size of the parasol was 3m in diameter. I was concerned about the shape of the cloth and whether it would fit, but since it had a pocket to receive the framework at the edge and the number of the framework was the same at 8 pieces, I decided there would be no problem.


Remove the old cloth from the parasol.
Since it is already torn, there is no reuse, so tear it off.

The end of the rope is fastened inside this tubular part. Since it is only hooked by a knot, untie the knot.
The knot is tight, so use pliers or cut it short if it is difficult.

The ball will come off, so keep it in a safe place.

The connection between the hanging arm and the center of the umbrella bone can be detached by pinching and shrinking the pin in the center of the arm.
Once this connection is detached, the umbrella bone can be easily removed.

The cloth itself is easy to attach. Simply cover the umbrella frame from above and place the bag part of the cloth over the tips of the eight bones.

The difficult part is to put the string that was removed at the beginning back through to the original place and tie it to the tip of the ball.
The difficult part is to pass the string through this narrow hole.
If you can't get the string through just by pushing it, use a wire or something similar.
I failed a few times, but I was able to thread the string through successfully. It is a little difficult to thread the string, but I think it can be done if you spend a little time on it.

Make a tight knot at the end of the ball so that the threaded string will not fall out.

Finally, cap the ball and you are done!
