With just over 21,000 students, USQ is mid-sized but smaller than the average Australian university, where enrolments are often far higher. About a third of UniSQ’s students attend campus, while the majority study online from across Queensland, Australia, and overseas.

UniSQ is ranked around 691st in the world and 29th out of 42 universities in Australia. That’s an expected position for a regional university of its size.

UniSQ is best known for its online study options, with around two-thirds of students studying externally. For many, that flexibility is the main attraction. The university also has strengths in teacher education, civil and agricultural engineering, nursing and paramedicine, and aviation training.

Student satisfaction is average at the undergraduate level and above average for postgraduates. Employment and salary figures are sometimes promoted as a strength, but these mainly reflect the fact that many UniSQ students are already in work when they enrol.

Like other regional universities, UniSQ faces funding challenges and does not match the prestige of the major metropolitan institutions. But no Australian public university has ever collapsed, and UniSQ remains a stable choice. For students seeking flexibility, affordability, and regional access, it’s a practical option.
