ONLY 3.5 hours away from Toronto and one of the BEST fisheries in Ontario for walleye, smallmouth bass, musky and northern pike
The fall is the best time of year to target a lot of different species as they feed up to get ready for the winter season.
On this trip I stayed at The Tilted Toque Wilderness Lodge on The Upper French River, to target musky and hopefully catch a few walleye to bring home for a catch and cook with my wife.
I spent 3 days fishing and collaborating with Ethan and Terry (owner's of The Toque) They are amazing hosts and Ethan is an unreal fishermen/guide.
On my trip, I had a lot of things I wanted to do, but only had 3 days to do it. Our first goal was to catch that elusive giant musky (would have been happy with any musky) and to catch 2 slot sized walleye for my wife.
The regulations on this section of The French River are the same as Lake Nipissing, so slot for walleye is between 40cm - 45cm (15.75" - 17.75")
We mostly targeted musky on this trip but made a few stops to target schools of bass and walleye, that are currently feeding up for the cold winter months.
Fall is truly one of the best times of year to be on the water, although it has the potential for some cold, wet weather. It also produces some amazing bite windows and some really big fish.
