Gaza & the World Episode 5 featuring Prof. John Mearsheimer: The UN Resolution That Betrayed Gaza

In this episode of Gaza & the World, Professor John Mearsheimer spoke with Helena about the fallout from UN Security Council Resolution 2803. He described the resolution as a disgrace that denied Palestinians any real path to self-determination. In addition, he warned that the United States no longer treated international law with any seriousness, which raised wider concerns about the future of the UN system.

The discussion also covered the shifting public view of Israel in the United States. Professor Mearsheimer said support for Israel among the public had dropped sharply because people saw clear evidence of the genocide in Gaza. He stressed that this shift had not yet reached the policy level, where the Israel lobby continued to shape decisions. He described how wealthy donors and political pressure worked together to shut down campus protests and silence dissent.

Professor Mearsheimer also spoke about global power shifts and argued that the world had moved into a multipolar era, with the United States, China, and Russia as the main poles. He outlined why Washington still viewed Europe, East Asia, and the Gulf as central to its strategy, and he examined how the Gaza crisis fit within these broader geopolitical tensions.
