Our perception of values can be misleading when we draw, but this lesson will teach you how to work past those optical tricks. Instead of focusing on isolated values, you’ll learn why it’s important to focus on relationships—how the surroundings affect what you see. We’ll look at optical illusions to show how context changes how we perceive light and shadow.
You’ll also pick up tips to avoid tunnel vision, like flipping, tilting, or stepping back from your drawing. Squinting is another great way to simplify values and spot the relationships that define the form. Practice these techniques to train your eye to see values more accurately and improve the precision of your drawings.
