Hello! Here's a very good Drama starring a most unusual man, named Louis R. Wolheim. Do you know him? I mean, know HIM (not his rough face!) Let's take a deeper look...
"He was an American actor, of both stage and screen, whose rough physical appearance relegated him to roles mostly of thugs or villains in the movies, but whose talent allowed him to flourish on stage. His career was mostly contained during the silent era of the film industry, due to his untimely death at the age of 50 in 1931." Let's look even further into the man...
"Born in New York City in 1880, he attended Cornell University, where he graduated with a degree in engineering. After graduation, he taught mathematics, including 6 years as an instructor at Cornell. According to Wolheim, while at Cornell, he suffered an injury to his nose during a football game, and, after having the nose seen to by medical professionals, later that same day he got into a physical altercation (which he won), although his nose suffered more damage, ending up becoming almost a trademark for him." (Thank you, Wiki!)
Isn't that amazing? It's always wise not to "Judge a book by it's cover" ;)
Historically significant footage:
"Danger Lights features rare footage of a tug of war between two steam locomotives, actual documentary footage of the activities in the Miles City yard, and what is believed to be the only motion picture footage of a dynamometer car from the steam railroad era in the USA. Similar footage may have existed in MGM's Thunder (1929), with Lon Chaney but that film is now lost." (Wiki)
If you've ever taken a ride on an old train, you'll really appreciate this film. Having taken our children on the Colorado Durango to Silverton (and back) train, this film was very interesting to me, and sparked years' old memories and helped connect some historical "dots"! I hope you'll give this one a try. I hope that it's an enjoyable film for you and your family!
Oh yes! Jean Arthur's in this film--she looks very young, and different!
