Testimonies before the Ad-Hoc Committee have left South Africa with more questions than answers as the body continues its probe into allegations of criminal infiltration and political interference in the criminal justice system. This week was one of firsts as suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner for Crime Detection, Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya and Minister, Senzo Mchunu had their turn in the hot seat, answering critical questions about their role in the disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team and alleged links to criminal figures. The Parliamentary inquiry was established after KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi made the bombshell claims and fingered the pair as key figures in some of the ills that bedevil the police service.
