Starting with the rich musical traditions of the Balkans, we’ll then explore a range of countries, uncovering the sounds and stories of these rare instruments. In this video, we explore the Gaida (known as the Bagpipe in English). Our journey takes us to the village of Xiropotamos (Drama), where we meet Nikos Stavridis from the folk group Visóka, a talented trio of musicians.
Nikos introduces us to his Gaida, sharing insights into its history, heritage, and construction. Of course, he concludes with an audio sample, showcasing its unique sound.
