Es ist nicht viel bekannt über die hochgradig talentierte Band TONIC aus dem Raum Stuttgart. Ihre einzige LP „This Way“ erschien 1980 auf dem Peak Label und wurde in den Sypgel Studios in Kirchheim/Teck aufgenommen. Peak war eines der Labels von Peter Garattoni und Günther Marek, beide bei Eulenspygel als Musiker aktiv. Für den Mix zeichnete sich wie so oft Achim Bosch (Sinner, Iris, Sphinx, Floating Opera, etc.) verantwortlich. Nach der Veröffentlichung tauchten die meisten Bandmitglieder noch bei der Gruppe Tiefste Provinz (ein Album) auf. Nur Saxophonist Michael Draskowitsch ist noch viele Jahre als Sessionmusiker auf diversen Alben aktiv.
Schaut man auf Fan- oder Sammlerseiten zum Thema Krautrock und Progrock im Internet, findet man viele lobende Worte über die höchst anspruchsvolle LP „This Way“. Ein Original in einem vernünftigen Zustand ist heute auch nicht mehr unter 100 Euro zu bekommen.
Für diese Wiederveröffentlichung auf CD und LP wurde ein Original von Patrick Engel überspielt und anschließend von Andreas „Neudi“ Neuderth remastert. Beide Formate enthalten Abbildungen der Original-LP. Somit konnte ein Stück deutscher Musikgeschichte gerettet werden.

Little is known about the highly talented band TONIC, who hail from the
Stuttgart region. Their only LP „This Way“ was released in 1980 on the
Peak label, and was recorded at Sypgel Studios in Kirchheim/Teck. Peak
was one of the labels run by Peter Garattoni and Günther Marek, both
active musicians with Eulenspygel. As is often the case, Achim Bosch
(Sinner, Iris, Sphinx, Floating Opera, etc.) was responsible for the
mixing. After the release of the album, most of the band members returned
to the Tiefste Provinz line-up (one album). Only saxophonist Michael
Draskowitsch remained active for many years as a session musician on
various albums.
If you look on the Internet at fan or collector sites devoted to krautrock
and progrock, you‘ll find many glowing reviews of the highly demanding LP
„This Way“. Today, you can‘t find an original in reasonable condition for
less than 100 euros either.
For this CD and LP reissue, an original was dubbed by Patrick Engel and
then remastered by Andreas „Neudi“ Neuderth. Both formats feature
illustrations from the original LP. In this way, a piece of German music
history has been saved.
