The Toleman Group sponsored and ran their own Toleman group racing team for the first time in 1979, contesting the European F2 championship.
The European Formula Two season was contested over 12 rounds and the Championship went right down to the wire as 1978 runner-up Marc Surer in the March went wheel-to-wheel with Brian Henton of the Toleman team. Brian Henton and Rad Dougall drove the new Ralt RT2 in the hope of winning the European championship and the season featured some remarkable racing filled with drama and excitement.
