The common dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) is a familiar wildflower known for its bright yellow blooms and fluffy seed heads. It appears in early spring and continues flowering throughout much of the year, thriving in lawns, roadsides, and disturbed ground. Though often seen as a weed, dandelions are important for pollinators and entirely edible, with leaves, flowers, and roots used in salads, teas, and herbal remedies. Its deep taproot helps break up compacted soil, making it a surprisingly beneficial plant despite its weedy reputation.
