The finish from the final stage of the 14th Rally van Staden!
The finish line from SS Westrozebeke is in a corner. On previous passes there were some overshoots, this did not happen now on this 4th and final pass, but there was still quite some spectacle since corner entry was more important than exit here.
The leader so far after the first 3 rounds, Bjorn Syx, had to retire on the first stage of this final loop with power issues in the Toyota GR Yaris Rally2 with a 21 second lead. Therefore the lead went to Vincent Verschueren (1, Škoda Fabia RS Rally2) (who also drove some scratches before).
SS Westrozebeke is 12.96 km long.
Results overall top 10:
1. Vincent Verschueren completed the stage in 6:35.0 (avg 118.1 km/h)
2. Jonas Dewilde (5, Citroën C3 rally2) +2.6
3. Roger Hodenius (2, Škoda Fabia RS Rally2) +4.2
4. Paul Lietaer (8, Subaru Impreza S5 WRC '98) +12.9
5. Andy Lefevere (4, Volkswagen Polo GTI R5) +16.9
6. Richard Pex (6, Škoda Fabia RS Rally2) +23.2
7. Chris Vandamme (9, Alpine A110 Rallye GT+) +40.2
8. Martin van Iersel (19, Hyundai i20 N Rally2) +41.4
9. Thierry Cokelaere (11, BMW 1M Coupé) +42.7
10. Richard Weatherley (20, Citroën C3 Rally2) +44.6
Vincent Verschueren wins the rally with 22.0 seconds advantage to Jonas Dewilde who gets his best result in a rally so far. Roger Hodenius takes the 3rd podium spot on +43.6.
Historic top 5:
1. John Morgan (33, Ford Escort RS 1800 MKII) was the fastest on the final stage and completed in 7:25.0 (avg 104.8 km/h, good for P15 overall on +50.0). He pushed hard and was rather hot in the brake zone to the final corner!
2. Kenny Verstraete (59, BMW E21) +14.3
3. Maxime Castelein (31, Ford Escort RS 1800 MKII) +20.9
4. Nick Couvreur (57, Opel Ascona B) +24.8
5. Geoff Roberts (62, Ford Escort RS 1800 MKII) +27.8
The unfortunate one of this stage is Ludovic Vitse (36, Opel Astra GSi 16V), who had taken the historic lead in the final round, and had 16.2 seconds advantage before this stage. We saw him pass after us, but didn't return to the finish... He stranded with mechanical failure in the final kilometer of the rally.
Therefore, John Morgan is the winner in Historic, 2:56.6 before Kenny Verstraete; Geoff Roberts is 3rd on 4:19.7.
Other contenders for the podium were a.o. Danny Vancoillie (29, Opel Kadett GT/E), he was on P4 after SS5 but he was in SuperRally due to not finishing on SS6, and Maxime Castelein, who lost 20 minutes on SS9. Also Stefaan Prinzie (17, Opel Ascona 400) was doing great until he also had to retire from P3 with mechanical issues on SS10. Bert Cornelis (15, Opel Monza) went off into a ditch on SS7 and was unrecoverable so retired from the lead. Guy Anderson (18, Mitsubishi Galant VR-4) who lead his previous event in Belgium, could not show his potential and had to retire with radiator issues on SS3, and Mathieu Vandoolaeghe (28, Mercedes-Benz 190 Diesel) retired from P3 on SS9 with a broken driveshaft

Dewilde punctured near the end of the stage and came hot into the penultimate corner, but managed to keep the car on the road and secure his 2nd place.
