Control Your Mind.
Romans 12:2
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
“Do not live the way this world lives. Let God change the way you think. Then you will know what God wants you to do. It will be good, and it will please Him.”
1. Why Controlling the Mind is Important ?
A. Your thoughts become your action.
Proverbs 23:7 : “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he...”
Examples:
A. David and Bathsheba (2 Samuel 11)
Thought: David looked at Bathsheba and desired her.
Action: He committed adultery, then murder.
What you think about consistently, you eventually act upon. If your mind is filled with negativity, sin, or fear, your life will reflect it. But if your mind is filled with God’s truth, peace, and purpose, your life will flourish in Him. That’s why it important to control our mind.
B. The Devil Attacks Through the Mind.
2 Corinthians 10:4-5 The church in Corinth, a group of Christians living in a city full of sin, pride, false teachers, and confusion.
“(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” We do not fight with human weapons. Instead, we use God’s powerful weapons. These weapons destroy the enemy’s strong places.
5 We break down clever arguments and every proud idea that sets itself against the knowledge of God. We take hold of every thought and make it obey Christ.
“We don’t fight like the world. We use God’s power to destroy wrong thinking. We make our thoughts obey Christ.
1. (Genesis 3:1–6)
The devil attacked Eve’s mind with doubt and deception.
Thoughts the devil planted:
A. “hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?”
B. “For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.”
Means “If you eat it, you’ll be like God.”
The devil doesn’t need to destroy you physically if he can control your mind. He will lie, deceive, and tempt you with thoughts. That’s why we must take every thought captive.
That’s why it important to control our mind.
2. How to Control Your Mind.
A. Renew Your Mind with God’s Word
Romans 12:2 (KJV) again reminds us to be “transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
Use God’s Word: Just like Jesus did when tempted (Matthew 4:1-10).
“But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”
Quoted from: Deuteronomy 8:3
Temptation 2: Jump off the temple and let angels catch you
“Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.”
Quoted from: Deuteronomy 6:16
Temptation 3: Worship the devil to receive the kingdoms of the world.
“Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.”
Quoted from: Deuteronomy 6:13.
B. Guard What You Let Into Your Mind.
Philippians 4:8.
“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
C. Pray for the Mind of Christ
1 Corinthians 2:16 :“For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.” “No one can know what the Lord is thinking. No one can teach Him.’ But we have the mind of Christ.”
This means we cannot fully understand God on our own, but because we belong to Jesus, we can think more like Him. His Spirit helps us understand what is true and how to live rightly. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you think like Jesus. His mind was pure, humble, obedient, and full of compassion. You can’t do this on your own; you need divine help.
D. Reject Negative and Sinful Thoughts Immediately
James 4:7 : “Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
Don’t entertain wrong thoughts. Rebuke them in Jesus’ name. Replace them with Scripture and prayer.
3. The Blessings of a Controlled Mind.
A. Peace Will Fill Your Life
Isaiah 26:3 : “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”“You will keep in perfect peace those who trust you, because they keep their thoughts fixed on you.”
When you trust God and keep your mind focused on Him, He will give you peace that nothing can take away.
B. You Will Walk in God’s Purpose
When your mind is under control, your choices align with God’s will. You live with clarity and direction.
C. You Will Win Spiritual Battles
A controlled mind is a fortified mind. The enemy will find no entrance, and you will walk in daily victory.
