My Favorite Fixed Gear Cranks, But Are They Worth It?

More than any other type of rider, fixed gear riders emphasize the importance of the cranks. Fixed gear riders can't change to a lighter gear when riding uphill, making the stiffness and feel of the cranks important. Add the fact that most fixed gear riders care about how a crankset looks just as much as it performs, it's easy to see why the feel and bombproof-ness of track cranksets are of utmost importance. My favorite fixed gear cranks are the Sugino 75's. I've been riding the original square taper version for the past 10 years, and Sugino sent over their new and improved 75 Direct Drives for me to try out. These are my favorite cranks, but at a whopping $600, are they worth it?
