Authorities arrest suspect in 1973 killing of Linda O'Keefe

James Alan Neal, 72, was arrested in the 1973 murder case of Linda on Tuesday. He nodded at his crying relatives as he was led into court on Thursday. Police hope decades-old photo of Neal, bottom right, will jog potential witnesses' memory. Linda was walking home from school when she was strangled and left in a ditch.The DNA sample taken from the crime scene in Newport Beach failed to yield a match until January after a submission to genealogical site Family Tree DNA. Neal, arrested in Colorado Springs, now faces charges of murder and kidnapping with the intent of lewd and lascivious acts with a child.
