Metphies Suite | Godzilla Anime Trilogy (Original Soundtrack) by Takayuki Hattori

Metphies' theme is a soothing hymn, played primarily through the plucking of a harp, or a string ensemble, or better yet atmospheric synths. It's a theme meant to coo and calm, almost akin to spa music in the way it drifts and soothes. The versions as the films progress get more diverse, with some piano and cello arrangements to add layers of emotion and history to Metphies and the Exif. But through Planet Eater, as Metphies unveils his darker colors, his theme takes on a more unnerved, harsh edge, with the strings becoming more unhinged and the orchestra focusing on the weight of his betrayal and madness. Metphies' theme even dabbles in classical elements, whether be the pensive opening to Metphies - Kindness, or the almost machievellian unraveling in Attack That Consumes the Earth, Hattori manages to change Metphies' theme in a way that isn't as simple as "making it evil". Through almost all of his human character themes is a deep, poetic tragedy that underlines the melodies he writes, and it makes Metphies' theme one of my personal favorite non-monster Godzilla themes.
