Impressions/observations during the test drive:
The exterior design of the the Jimny focuses more on being retro and off-road capability-vibes as evidenced by its boxy shape. It is definitely unique and cool-looking. In the inside, the Jimny's interior materials are focused more on the durable side, rather than the premium side but that is not something to complain about since this vehicle is primarily designed for durability and off-road capability rather than luxury. It is not to say that the interior feels cheap, but rather it actually gives one a feeling that the vehicle can be reliable during both on- and off-road driving conditions. It also has good technology - its 9-inch infotainment screen is capable of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also has a reverse camera with good quality and rear parking sensors, which are helpful. The driving position in it feels high for a small car, which is a good thing if one prefers a more commanding seating position.
When driving this car, one would discover that the engine is adequate. It makes good power so it still feels safe and capable to be driven on highways. It's also still easy to overtake slow traffic using this vehicle, even on uphill roads. The steering on the Jimny is nicely weighted - it is not too heavy, but not too light as well as there is good feedback from it. Another observation is that this vehicle is definitely easy to position and maneuver around since the windows are almost straight down which means that the visibility out of it is really good. Around corners, there is some body roll which is expected from a 4x4 like this. Its longer wheelbase (compared to the 3-door), makes it more stable at higher speeds. The accelerator pedal is responsive enough, but it is noticeable that the brake pedal needs just a little bit more input to slow down more (but not to the point where it's dangerously delayed). The transmission shifts smoothly and downshifts responsively when needed. Overall, this vehicle's size makes it an ideal car for both city streets and off-roading as both of these situations might involve tight spaces. It is also good for highway driving, as it is stable enough on highway speeds. The chassis and suspension also provide for a decent ride quality, which makes the Jimny nice for long range trips. Its fuel usage is also good - 16 kilometers per liter on the highway (80-90 kph cruise control) and around 11-12 on combined driving conditions. Another good feature for highways is its cruise control which makes the car maintain a set speed.
